Amit shah in Citizenship row in parliament

Assam NRC: The Congress and Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress want a discussion about the National Register of Citizens or NRC.

The Trinamool Congress members, who led yesterday's protests as well, shouted slogans by the courthouse, forcing an adjournment till 1 pm.

Following the home reconvened, protests broke out again.  Minutes later, Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day.

In an speech cut short by opposition slogan shouting in the Well of the House, Amit Shah said the NDA government had been able to do what the UPA could not.

The National Register of Citizens, '' he said, was at the soul of this 1985 Assam Accord which sought to determine illegal migrants to Assam and prepare a list of people.

Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi had signed the Assam Accord, pointed out Mr. Shah, adding,"This was the Congress PM's initiative.

He (Rajiv Gandhi) didn't have the guts.  We've got the guts and we are doing it..."You want to save illegal Bangladeshis."  Trinamool's Sukhendu Roy said six months ago, government data recorded 2.4 lakh individuals"as suspicious voters".

Reading from the Supreme Court order on the subject, he added,"It's totally untrue when they state it is all happening under SC oversight.

We must involve the human rights in this".  Rajya Sabha chairman Venkaiah Naidu told members that Home Minister Rajnath Singh will come to the House after attending to his duties from the Lok Sabha and answer to this"sensitive and serious matter".

"The NRC problem is a significant issue and should be dealt sensitively.  Injustice should not be done to the genuine Indian citizens," said senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge, promising that the celebration will discuss the issue with the authorities.

No business can be headquartered in Rajya Sabha yesterday as well because of the protests, which were spearheaded by Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress.

The Congress and Mamata Banerjee have accused the government of using the pretext of Bangladeshi migrants to goal Assam's Muslim population.

In a press conference yesterday, Ms Banerjee said it had been he government's"game strategy to terrorize humankind and human beings forcibly and an effort to isolate them so as to play elections politics".

The National Register of Citizens in Assam is being updated for the first time since 1951 to recognize the illegal migrants from Bangladesh.

But with the onus of demonstrating citizenship on the people, many, particularly in rural regions, are apprehensive that they might be declared illegal since they don't have appropriate documentation.

Following huge criticism, the government has promised that those missing from the taxpayers' listing will be given ample opportunity to prove their citizenship.

No one is going to be announced a foreigner now and there will be no arrest or deportation, the home ministry, as well as that the Assam government, have stated.

Rajya Sabha adjourned following a ruckus  Opposition anger over the final draft of their Assam taxpayers' list, which renders out 40 lakh people, swallowed parliament today.

The uproar began in Rajya Sabha as BJP chief Amit Shah climbed to speak after a temporary adjournment.  Minutes after, the house was adjourned for the day.

Lok Sabha witnessed protests too, as the Congress and Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress put in a notice to cancel the day's business and discuss the citizens' list.

The Congress has demanded an all-party meeting, saying the thing affects not only the lives of people but relationships with neighboring states, especially Bangladesh.
