Violinist Balabhaskar's body to be kept in University College at Palayam, funeral on Wednesday

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Renowned musician Balabhaskar, 40, who had been fighting for life for the last seven days following meeting with a major road accident, has died. The death came around 12.50'm on Tuesday while undergoing treatment at Ananthapuri Hospital within the town.


Balabhaskar, had met with the accident along with his wife Lakshmi, 38, daughter Thejaswini Bala, 2, and friend Arjun, 2, on national highway at Thamarakkulam near Pallippuram just beyond the capital city throughout the early hours of September 25.

The Toyota Innova MUV they were traveling strayed off from the road and rammed into a tree with the opposite lane of the road when Arjun, who was reportedly driving the car, dropped asleep.

Balabhaskar had suffered multiple injuries from the crash, including acute damages on spine, rib cage, lungs and brain. Lakshmi and Arjun continues to be under treatment in the Exact Same hospital

An inquest procedure was conducted around the body following that it had been shifted to Medical College Hospital for post mortem examination.

Sources close to family stated that the body will be brought to University College at Palayam, his alma mater, in which it will be held from 1pm to 3.30pm for public to pay tributes.

At 6.30 pm, his body will be taken into his wife Lakshmi's house at Thittamangalam. The family's decision would be to spoil him near the burial place on the chemical.

He's got a sister, Meera.

He'd achieved fame at a very young age as a violin prodigy, winning several music competitions at the school level itself. At the age of 17, he debuted as a music director, composing music for the film, Mangalyapallak.

During his school days, he formed the group -'Confusion', which is possibly the very first independent pop music band in Malayalam, together with his collegemates.

After writing music for couple more films, he walked away in the business to concentrate more on his own independent music career.

He is credited with popularising the genre of fusion music blending elements of american and Carnatic classical music one of Malayali music fans.
